Über die Unschuld vom Land
(Of the Innocence in the Landscape)
The landscapes I paint exist only in my mind. There's no reference; these landscapes are free. Yet, every observer promptly claims them with their eyes, thoughts and memories. Annexation, interpretative colonialism, occupation of meaning, the quest for significance—the observer attributes to me a knowledge of places in their universe, even though I barely know my own. We just can't help it! We locate, occupy and judge. "Where is this? It looks like...! Damn horizon, strange geometric entities that must be surreal and geography held in gold." Are these all just assertions, figments of the mind and fictions? Yes! Just like any human annexation—always temporary, never permanent and always fictional. In the end, just an image, an abstract construct in time and space.
Die Landschaften die ich male gibt es nur in meinem Kopf. Es existiert keine Vorlage, diese Landschaften sind frei. Doch jeder Betrachter nimmt sie umgehend mit seinen Augen, Gedanken und Erinnerungen in Besitz. Landnahme, Interpretationskolonialismus, Deutungsokkupation, Sinnsuche - der Betrachter unterstellt mir Ortskenntnis in seinem Universum, obwohl ich kaum mein eigenes kenne. Wir können einfach nicht anders! Wir verorten, besetzen und urteilen. "Wo ist das? Das sieht doch aus wie...! Verdammter Horizont, komische geometrische Fremdkörper, die surreal sein müssen und in Gold gehaltene Geographie." Sind das wirklich alles nur Behauptungen, Hirngespinste und Fiktionen? Ja! Genau wie jede Landnahme durch Menschen - immer temporär, nie dauerhaft und immer fiktiv. Am Ende nur ein Bild, ein abstraktes Konstrukt in Zeit und Raum.
